“Waste does not exist in nature because ecosystems reuse everything that grows in a never-ending cycle of efficiency and purpose.” — Frans van Houten
This month’s playlist theme, ‘Never Ending’, holds multiple meanings. It speaks to the sustainability-oriented part of my brain, which envisions a world without waste. It simultaneously soothes the perfectionist part of my brain, with a reminder that every day is a chance to improve. Notably, it is also a nod to the nature of our pursuit of democracy and all the protections that democracy alleges to offer—even if praxis continues to escape us.
As we enter graduation season, we’re faced with yet another summer of unrest and activism in the United States, as students across the nation organize to hold our government accountable for its promises of freedom and fairness. Between surviving a pandemic, their activist exploits, and academic disruptions, the Class of 2024 (and 2020) must dig deep for grace once more, as many face expulsions, campuses made fully remote through the end of the year, and in some cases, cancelled graduations in response to their activism.
❤️🩹 To populations suffering around the world, hold on as best you can.
✊🏾 To the students (and their allies) wrestling for our humanity on every campus, thank you for your bravery and your honesty.
💪🏾 To every human contributing their energy and effort toward bending the arc of the moral universe toward justice, keep going. Ain’t no stopping us now.
🆕 New music. Same vibe.🎧
